Eskipoo temperament

Sociable: These puppies love people! They were bred to be companion dogs and will never tire of social interaction. Their friendliness makes them candidates for therapy work.

Energetic: Though they are small, Eskipoos are bubbling over with energy. They love play and activity. 

Adaptable: Eskapoo puppies can adapt to various living environments, including apartments and houses with yards, as long as they receive enough exercise and attention.

Vocal: Eskipoos are sure to alert you when anything is out of the ordinary. They have a tendency to bark or howl at unfamiliar things.

Affectionate: They tend to be affectionate dogs that enjoy cuddling and being close to their human family members.

Playful: If you need a fun-loving companion, look no further! These dogs never tire of playtime. 

Good with kids: Eskipoos love to play and they do great at playing with kids. Their small size helps them not to overwhelm small children.

Eskipoo Breed history

We don’t know for certain when American Eskimo dogs and Poodles were first crossed. However, we do know the histories of each parent breed. 

Poodles originated in Germany and were used as water retrievers. Their intelligence, good temperament, and hypoallergenic traits have made them a favorite dog breed of all time. 

Originally known as the American Spitz, the American Eskimo dog was bred to be a multi-purpose farm dog. They were also popular in circuses and trick shows because of their intelligence, agility, and beautiful white coats. 

Eskipoos are a designer breed, which means they cannot be AKC registered. However, they can be registered with: 

• – ACHC = American Canine Hybrid Club
• – DBR = Designer Breed Registry
• – DDKC = Designer Dogs Kennel Club
• – DRA = Dog Registry of America, Inc.
• – IDCR = International Designer Canine Registry

Eskipoos are similar to Cockapoos, Maltipoos, and Yorkipoos.

Eskipoo Average size

Eskipoos stand 9-15” at the shoulder and weigh around 13-20 lbs.

Average Eskipoo lifespan

Eskipoos usually live from 10-12 years.

Eskipoo body features

Since Eskipoos are a mixed breed they may inherit the traits of either parent breed. They may have tight curls like a Poodle or the longer, thicker coat of the American Eskimo dog. 

They come in various colors including white, black, cream, brown, gray, and apricot.

grooming Your Eskipoo Puppy

How much grooming your Eskipoo needs depends on which of its parents it takes after, but either way, it usually isn’t too bad. If it takes after the Poodle side it will only need occasional trimming and brushing. 

If it is more similar to the American Eskimo Dog side it may need more frequent brushing and trimming, as American Eskimo Dogs have longer, thicker fur. 

Your Eskipoo will also need its nails trimmed and teeth brushed regularly.

Keeping Your Eskipoo Puppy Healthy

For all crossbreeds, the puppies are susceptible to the conditions of both parents. In order to learn about conditions that may affect your Eskipoo, learn about conditions that may affect American Eskimo Dog and the Poodle. 

Here are a few other common things to be aware of: 

Obesity 

You can protect your dog from one of the most common health problems: obesity. One of the best ways to extend your dog’s life is by feeding them the correct amount of food and giving them adequate exercise.

Hip and Elbow Dysplasia 

Like all dog breeds, they are at risk for hip and elbow dysplasia, two of the most common health issues in dogs. 

Hip and elbow dysplasia occurs when the thigh bone doesn’t fit snugly into the hip and can result in limping, lameness, or arthritis if it’s not addressed.

Hip and elbow dysplasia can be genetic, or it can be caused by environmental factors such as overeating or injuries. 

Here are some ways to prevent hip dysplasia in your puppy: 

1. – Ask the breeder for an OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) Hip Clearance. Dogs with hip dysplasia shouldn’t be bred. 
2. – Talk to your vet about the right food for your puppy and stick to the correct amount to prevent unhealthy growth. 
3. – Keep your puppy from running or jumping excessively on hard surfaces and from standing on their hind legs.  

Typical Eskipoo Allergens

First of all, what causes allergies? 

Allergens are caused by dander, which is dead skin cells. Both animals and humans shed these dead skin cells. Dander is attached to the fur that dogs shed. 

Although no dog is truly hypo-allergenic, Eskipoos are less likely to aggravate allergies than some breeds.

Remember, each puppy has a different combination of genes, so allergens vary from dog to dog. Spending time with a puppy before adopting them is a good way to know if you are triggered by their allergens.
